La Jolla hotels in California

The Beautiful, The Spectacular, and yes, even the Deals!

Talk about choices!

La Jolla hotels in California range from old world charm to spectacular oceanfront views to luxurious spas to popular, comfortable franchises.

La Valencia Hotel La Jolla

La Valencia Hotel, La Jolla, charms us with it's Mediterranean-influenced architecture, expansive ocean views from bars and restaurants, and richly appointed furniture and decorations.

Since 1926, La Valencia courtyards, restaurants, and 112 rooms have hosted celebrities, celebrations, reunions, and romantic getaways. Even if "The Pink Lady" is not in your hotel budget, do plan to enjoy a meal, a drink, or dessert here.

La Jolla Shores Hotel

As one of the few La Jolla hotels located on a sandy beach, the La Jolla Shores hotel puts you within view of dolphins and is only a few steps away from sunbathing, kayaking, surf lessons, and sunset walks on the boardwalk. Nearby you will find Avenida de la Playa, a strip of restaurants, cafes, ice cream shops, and recreation rental outlets.

At the La Jolla Shores restaurant, rent a lounge chair and umbrella, or play tennis, or dine waterfront at The Shores Restaurant. Ocean-facing rooms and garden rooms surround linking courtyards with heated swimming pool, jacuzzi, and semi-tropical plants flowers.

The Lodge at Torrey Pines

This luxury hotel resort has been awarded the AAA 5 stars for 10 years for good reason. Located above the Torrey Pine State Beach, the hotel's Arts and Crafts style furniture, design and architecture draws you in to enjoy the craftsmanship of brick, wood, tile, and stone, while the Pacific Ocean, rustic footpaths through mesas and cliffs, and golf greens of the Torrey Pines Golf Course draw you out to enjoy the beautiful California landscape. Add visits to the luxurious spa and resort restaurants and you have a complete five-senses experience.

The inviting foyer and fireplace welcomes guests to share conversation with family and friends while watching the sun set over the Torrey Pines Golf course.

The Lodge at Torrey Pines is a good choice for business, sport, and pleasure as it hosts indoor and outdoor dining, conference space, a heated swimming pool, and the Torrey Pines Golf Course just steps away.

Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa

The Estancia hotel combines Spanish colonial architecture and gardens with conference and meeting rooms. Throw in a luxurious spa and you have the right mix for a business retreat, holiday stay, or special event.

Built on the mesa a block from the University of California, San Diego, this is one of the La Jolla hotels located just minutes away from the Torrey Pines Golf Course and the Birch Aquarium.

Empress Hotel

Located near the heart of the walking village, the Empress hotel in La Jolla offers comfortable and updated rooms. Within a few blocks you will find the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Athenaeum Music and Arts Library, many good restaurants and cafes with outdoor seating, and great shopping.

Hotel Parisi

As you approach the Hotel Parisi across the tiled entrance, you know this boutique hotel is special. When visiting my parents who were celebrating their wedding anniversary here, I noticed the attention to details, the flower arrangements, the high ceilings. And my parents were thrilled with the quiet and elegant experience that prepared them for long walks along the coast and meals with ocean views.

Marriott Residence Inn

Popular with families as well as business travelers, the Marriott Residence Inn is down the road from the University of California, San Diego. This Inn offers a picnic area and playground and is located near a city bus stop. Nearby convenient shopping at several malls includes Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and a movie theater.

Grande Colonial

Good reviews acknowledge the Pacific Ocean views, the location steps from the bustling Village, and the architecture from the golden era at the Grande Colonial hotel.

Many enjoy special occasions and events at the meeting rooms and Nine-Ten restaurant.

La Jolla Hotels Discounts

For discounts, deals for La Jolla hotels can be found off-season and online.

Off-season is from October through May when the weather turns cooler and kids are in school.

As a local, I find the off-season to be some of the best months in La Jolla because San Diego can be blessed with some great sunshine interspersed with heavy rains during those cooler months.

According to www.weather.com, San Diego average rainfall is heaviest December through March, with February logging the most average rainfall of 2.35 inches.

A few years ago my retired cousins from Pennsylvania told me they wanted to rent a condo and they asked me where to stay in San Diego during February and March. They told me they wanted a good choice of restaurants and to be near a sandy beach for walking and jogging.

I naturally steered them toward La Jolla Shores and they rented a condo at off-season rates. Even though we had seasonal rains during their visit, they still talk about the great time they had, walking on the beach, dining at Piatti's restaurant, and practicing yoga at one of the many gyms nearby.
